Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation Review

Hi My Angels

It feels like forever since I have posted, I finally got my new laptop, call it an early birthday present from my parents. So after getting all the necessary things installed, I got my laptop back.

So after doing a poll on Instagram in which I asked whether you girls would like to see a review on the new Estee lauder double wear nude fresh foundation or the Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation. I got an overwhelming response for the Smashbox Studio Skin. So I rushed to my nearest Smashbox counter to be shade matched. I bought this foundation a little less than a month now and have been using it in multiple ways now so that I can let you lovelies know what I think.

I always like to research my foundations and found that this foundation was developed in LA studios under intense lighting so that the foundation does not have any flashback when exposed to harsh lights. This means that this foundation is great for flash photography. The foundation is also said to last for 15 hours and is a very lightweight yet high coverage foundation. Smashbox is also cruelty free which is great. It also claims to be suitable for all skin types which is truly amazing and has 20 shades to choose from. This product also retails for R525.

My thoughts on this foundation are that it does everything that it claims to do and it is a beautiful foundation that is long lasting and wears amazing with incredible coverage once build up. I have worn this foundation for around 12 hours and I must say that I loved how this looked by the end of the day it does not fade or transfer and feels super light on the skin. I have also applied this foundation in many different ways, I have applied it with a beauty blender and also with a brush. Personally I prefer my beauty blender for this product but some sort of a buffing brush works amazing as well. I think that this product layers well over primers and does not look cakey on the skin. Packing wise this comes in a glass bottle with it is synonymous with higher end brands and it comes in a pump which is great.

The cons to this product is that I found that the shade 3.35 which was best suited for my skin tone is just not yellow under toned enough for my skin (as you can see from the above swatches). However this is easily combated by doing one of two things. The first is mixing this foundation with another yellow under toned foundation which I found my NYX total control foundation in caramel is perfect for since I don’t use that foundation on its own. Another option is using a yellow based concealer to highlight my face so that it brings back the yellowness to my skin tone. I would recommend the LA girl concealer in medium beige, the Maybelline instant age rewind concealer in Medium or even the new Wet n Wild photo focus concealer in Light medium. Another con is that the price is pretty steep and can be very out of budget for most people but in my opinion I think that a good foundation is worth the spend and it just does something else to your skin that won’t find in drug store foundations so definitely work saving your money for.

The final verdict is that this has become my go to foundation recently and I would definitely recommend this foundation to all girls especially if you have an occasion to go to because you are guaranteed to come out amazing in photos. The coverage is beautiful and you can definitely control the coverage that you need based on the occasion. I think save your money and invest in this product, there will also be a shade to suit most people which is an added bonus.

So my loves, until the next one

Stay Glam XOXO
