Foundation Collection

Hi My Angels

My name is Shivani, (hi Shivani) and I am a foundation addict lol I need help anyway I hope you are having an amazing week. Every girl who loves makeup knows that you are either a foundation or concealer girl there is no two ways about it. So for those of you that don’t know me, I have a terrible weakness for foundation and would definitely categorize myself as a foundation girl (Concealers are good too but I prefer to have staples rather than splurge on them). I love foundations and have a crazy obsession with them, I don’t know what it is about them honestly. I love playing, swatching and wearing new foundations. Everything from the formulation to the longevity and also the coverage fascinates me.

Now I don’t usually come by my foundation shade very easily so when I do find it, I usually scoop up that foundation right away. I have a wide range of foundations from both the drugstore and high end.

Clinique Beyond perfecting 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer

This a very beautiful foundation that is very high coverage but lightweight on the skin. This foundation is perfect for someone who wants a full glam look without looking cakey. I go more in depth in with this foundation here. The one drawback for this foundation is that the shade range doesn’t cater for people with yellow undertones.

Shades: Cream Caramal and Nutty

The Body Shop

The Nude Fresh Foundation

This foundation is a light to medium coverage foundation that blends like a dream. I love this foundation for summer months as I feel like it allows my skin to breath. It also looks very natural and skin like. I do go more in depth in part 2 of my body shop series which can be found here.

Shade: 055 Yucatan Honey

Price: R295

The Clarifying Tea Tree matte Foundation

This foundation has truly made an impact on me. I have mentioned it now in 3 posts so it has to be something special.

You can read all about it in my current favourites post as well as in part 4 of my body shop series. My only drawbacks about this foundation is the shade range is quite limited. But also you need to moisturize your skin very well or use a hydrating primer or oil because if you don’t then the foundation will cling to dry patches on the skin and leave it feeling dry.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation

I had bought this foundation when I was on holiday in India and the girls just shade matched me by looking at me which I was really impressed with. I love this foundation on me. The formulation is beautiful with medium to full coverage and has a demi matte finish that doesn’t look dry or cakey.

This was my go to foundation for a very long time after getting it however no one stocked my shade at the time so I became hesitant to use it as I didn’t want to finish it. So this foundation ended up becoming neglected. I love applying this foundation with my beauty blender as it gives the most natural and flawless finish. However the only con of this foundation is that it doesn’t come with a pump but can easily be solved by purchasing a foundation pump from MAC but if you get the opportunity to buy this foundation, I highly recommend it.

Shade: 330 Toffee

Price: R300 from Samika store

NYX Total control drop Foundation

I happened to be in Cape Town for the NYX store opening in Canal Walk and I must say I was impressed. The store is truly beautiful and the staff and MUA’s were so helpful and friendly. I purchased a few products from there so let me know if you want to see a NYX haul post. There was so much hype about this foundation when it released, I mean you saw it everywhere on social. I do like the concept of this foundation with it being water based and in dropper form. The application is very easy and the coverage is buildable. I love the initial application of this foundation it’s very beautiful and skin like. It doesn’t look heavy or cakey when built up. I also love that the shade range is large with 24 shades sod there’s something for everyone.

My issue with this foundation is that by the end of the day it totally breaks down in my T zone. I am oily in that area but not extremely oily and this foundation just slips around that area and bunches up and looks like a hot mess. I even tried the powder before foundation technique which was suggested by Miss Dhanusha and that even failed. I really want to love this foundation but I am on the fence about it at the moment. I think I need to keep playing with it a little more to find a way that makes it work for me. If you have any suggestions then let me know.

LA Girl HD Pro Coverage Long Wear Foundation

I bought this foundation after all the hype about it on Youtube (Youtube makes me buy way too much). I must admit I really love this foundation. It gives a beautiful luminosity to the skin and one pump is enough to cover my entire face and give a medium coverage. This shade is also the perfect match to my skin. I really enjoy this foundation for more coverage days. This applies well with both a beauty blender and a brush. There is a good shade range with 16 shades in total. However if you need a foundation that is lighter or darker, there is a white foundation that lightens any of the foundations in the range and the darkest shade can be used to darken any foundation so there is definitely a possibility that you will find your shade.

Shade: Bronze

Price: R175

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

This is a cult classic and the quintessential full coverage foundation. I think every girl needs a full coverage foundation in their kit for special occasions. This foundation is budge proof and stays on the entire day. A little really does go a long way. I usually like to sheer it out with a little facial oil as I don’t like how dry it feels on my skin. This is a matte, suck the life out of you matte foundation so for my dry skin ladies using a very hydrating moisturizer or primer or doing the drop of oil trick will be beneficial for you. The shade range is also very vast and there is something for all skin tones. The shade that I have is a hair too dark for my skin tone but I make it work with a lighter concealer when I highlight.

Shade: Rich Ginger

Top Trick

Now my top trick is to mix your foundations ladies, I personally love doing this as you get the best out of the two products. My favourite concoction is a mix of the LA girl HD pro and the Estee Lauder Double Wear. Oh my word this mix is heaven. It gives you the most beautiful mix of full coverage with a matte yet luminous finish as you can see from the above picture. I can’t even handle how beautiful my skin looks and feels with this foundation. It’s not very heavy on the skin but applies beautifully. I love applying this mix with my beauty blender as I feel like it sheer out the foundation a little as I am not much of a fan of super full coverage.  Ladies please try this mix and let me know what you think.

I wish you all the best for the week ahead and until my next one…

Stay Glam XOXO

  1. Lovely post. I also mix my double wear with my LA girl HD. Thought I was crazy, glad there are others out there. Also love the concoction, makes the double wear go the extra mile.

    1. Aww thank you huni 🌸I did see that zando stocks maybelline now but unfortunately they don’t have my shade atm. There’s no doubting DW is the bomb but try the body shop one I love it. But also try the la girl and DW concoction….just trust me on this one

      1. I see you in the shade toffee is it the perfect match for your skintone? Im sooo sceptical to use the LA Girl foundation because all the reviews i have seen says its not suitable for oily skin i always prefer a matte finish because my skin is super oily 🙈

      2. Yes toffee is my perfect match. If you set the la girl foundation with a good setting powder you shouldn’t have a problem but mixing it with the double wear you won’t have any issues at all
